iPad Pro Won’t Play Mavic Pro 4K Video
Category : Hot Topics
For DJI Mavic Pro users who have just recorded some 4K footage and you may wish to transfer and play the drone footage on your high resolution Retina display screen iPad Pro during the flight. However, a lot of users from DJI or Phantom forums complain that the iPad Pro won’t play the DJI Mavic Pro 4K footage just as the conditions mentioned below:
“I have the Apple iPad Pro that I use as the display while flying the Mavic Pro.
Today I put the SD card from the Mavic Pro into the Apple SD card reader for my iPad iPad Pro. The iPad Photos app recognized the 4K video as content that it could import, and it did the import when I selected the 4K video. The iPad Photos app would not play the 4K video, saying it did not recognize the video format. I downloaded the DG Player from the iPad App Store and it played the 4K video perfectly for me on my iPad Pro.”
Why iPad Pro not play DJI Mavic Pro 4K video?
Before answering this question, let’s first be clear of the specific recording format of DJI Mavic Pro 4K and iPad Pro supported file format specification.
DJI Mavic Pro 4K specification
DCI 4K (4096 x 2160): 24p
UHD 4K (3840 x 2160): 24/25/30p
File container formats: MOV wrapper
File compression codec: MPEG-4 AVC/H.264
iPad Pro supported file format specification
iPad Pro can play video and audio file that meet the following standards:
– H.264 video up to 4K, 30 frames per second, High Profile level 4.2 with AACLC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio or Dolby Audio up to 1008 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo or multichannel audio, in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
– MPEG4 video up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AACLC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio or Dolby Audio up to 1008 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo or multichannel audio, in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
From above lists, we can see that although the recording container file format, compression codec and file resolution of DJI Mavic Pro all perfectly match with iPad Pro’s strict playback requirements. However, since iPad Pro only play 4K video with the frame rate of 30fps, while some of the DCI 4K or UHD 4K video shoot by DJI Mavic Pro are 24p or 25p, therefore, to get a successful playback experience, it would be much ideal for you to change the frame rate of DJI Mavic Pro to let it fit with iPad Pro.
